Jul 05 Google Nexus 7 vs. Toshiba Excite 7.7 vs. Galaxy Tab 2 7.0

If we talk about slates, customers want them to be small, light and portable. Considering the criteria there are three tablets that suits the category very well—we are talking about the budget friendly Google Nexus 7, high-end Toshiba Excite 7.7 and mediocre Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. Google Nexus 7 is announced recently at Google I/O, Toshiba Excite 7.7 was unveiled at CES this year while the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 was unveiled back in April and it is the replacement for Tab 7 Plus. Check out this interesting war of specs among the three 7 inches slates and decide who wins this battle.

Weight

Google Nexus 7 is the lightest of all, it weighs 340 g only. Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is slightly heavier, it is 344 g in weight while Toshiba Excite 7.7 is 380 g.

Display

Toshiba Excite 7.7 has the largest screen of all, it boast a display of 7.7-inches with 1280 x 720 resolutions which is perfect for reading and working. On the contrary Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 sports 7-inch TFT display with 1024×600 resolution and Google Nexus 7 has 7.0 inches display protected by Gorilla glass with approximately same resolution of the Toshiba’s device, i.e. 1280 x 800 pixels.

Processor

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is the weakest of all in terms of processors. The tablet is running 1GHz dual-core TI processor, while a snappy NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor quad-core processor is set to power both Toshiba Excite 7.7 and Google Nexus 7.  ASUS manufactured slate works on the bunch of quad-core Cortex-A9 chip clocking at 1.3 GHz.

Memory/ Storage

Toshiba Excite 7.7 is equipped with 1GB RAM and 16/ 32GB flash memory expandable via micro SD card. Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 features 1GB RAM and 8GB built-in storage which can be added via microSD card slot, the Nexus 7 has 1 GB of RAM and 8/16 GB of internal storage, it doesn’t support microSD card.

OS

Toshiba Excite 7.7 and Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 both both offers full Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich experience while Google Nexus 7 stands out of this small crew due to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Cameras

If we talk about cameras, Toshiba Excite 7.7 is the strongest and Google Nexus 7 is weakest of the three. Toshiba Excite 7.7 is designed with 5MP main camera and 2.0MP front facing camera while Google Nexus 7 boasts 1.2 MP front facing shooter for video calling. Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 boasts 3.2MP rear shooter and VGA front camera.

Battery

Toshiba Excite 7.7 offers 15Wh battery life, Google’s 4325 mAh battery offers a talk time of 10 hours and Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has 4000 mAh battery.
