Apple can Use IGZO Panels for a thin retina display in iPad 3

Sources continue to weave rumors about Apple’s product and this time we are highlighting Digitimes’ input which pinpoints that Apple is prepping to design its upcoming flagships with flat panels using IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) instead of IPS (in-plane switching panels). It cited that “Starting with the new iPads, Apple will utilize IGZO panels from Sharp in order to upgrade the display resolution of the new tablets to full HD level, the sources [in Apple's supply chain] indicated.”
But why is the Cupertino giant planning to use it? Actually the IGZO panels enable high resolution displays to be compact, energy efficient and cheaper for it. Sharp’s press release issued in April also indicated that these panels would be manufactured along with LCD panels for TVs.
This technology will help Apple to make its next generation iPad slimmer than the current one.
